Privacy policy

What we collect

• Quote requests: your name, email, optional phone number, the message you write, the business or category you picked, and the time you sent it.
• Business owners: the business you list or claim, your email address, and the profile details you add (bio, photos, services, links).
• Business help requests: the contact details and message you send us.
• Basic site data: standard server logs and anonymous usage data such as pages viewed, device type and approximate location, used to keep the site running and improve it.

We do not ask for payment details, Social Security numbers or other sensitive information. Please do not include them in your message.

How we use it

• To pass your quote request to the business you chose, or to a similar local business, and to email you a confirmation.
• To verify business owners, publish and update listings, and send account emails (verification, publishing, edit links).
• To answer questions, prevent spam and abuse, and keep records of requests.
• To contact business owners who ask for help with their Google profile or reputation.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use quote requests for advertising to you.

Who we share it with

• The business you contacted. When you submit a quote request you agree we may share your name, email, phone and message with that business, or with another local business in the same category, so it can respond. We review requests and forward them ourselves. The business will use your details under its own practices.
• Service providers that help us run the site: hosting, database, email delivery, analytics and Google services. They may only use data to provide those services.
• Legal reasons: if required by law, or to protect our rights and users.

Public information about businesses

Directory pages show public business information such as name, address, phone, website, category, and Google rating and review counts, collected from Google and other public sources, plus anything the owner adds. See our disclaimer. Owners can ask us to correct or remove a listing at any time.

Your choices

• Ask us to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing listings@whosinmycity.com. We will respond within 30 days.
• Tell us not to forward a request you have sent, if we have not yet done so.
• Unsubscribe from any non-essential email with the link in the message or by replying.

Residents of states with privacy laws may have additional rights, including to know, access, correct, delete and opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising. Email us to use any of these rights.

Retention and security

We keep quote requests and listing information for as long as needed for the purposes above and to meet legal obligations, then delete or anonymize them. We use reasonable safeguards, but no website can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.
